2nd Alpine Workshop on „Fire-induced geohydrological processes in mountainous areas“

Date: 25 and 26 April 2025

Venue: BOKU University, Department of Landscape, Water and Infrastructure, Institute of Mountain Risk Engineering, Vienna, Austria

Organizers: S. Melzner (GEOCHANGE Consulting e.U./ BOKU University, Austria) and Prof. J. Hübl (BOKU University, Austria)

Sponsor: Martin Rasmussen, Copernicus.org https://www.copernicus.org/

The next meeting will take place in Vienna and Lower Austria bringing together experts from Germany, Italy, Austria, the USA, New Zealand, and Israel to exchange knowledge on wildfire-induced geohydrological changes. The meeting will focus on the latest research findings, risk assessment approaches, and mitigation strategies.

The excursion to Hirschwang (Lower Austria) will examine the effects of the most recent and so far largest wildfire in Austria Special attention will be given to the fire impacts on vegetation, soil stability, water retention, erosion dynamics, and post-fire recovery processes. The field visit will provide valuable insights into the consequences of wildfires in Alpine environments and facilitated discussions on effective mitigation and restoration strategies.
